Watch: Funding transportation safety improvements for local communities

Earlier this year, the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning’s (CMAP) Transportation Committee adopted six county-level safety action plans. Now it’s time to put these plans to work. In collaboration with the DuPage Division of Transportation (DuDOT) and engineering firm TYLin, CMAP is offering implementation guidance with a pre-recorded webinar for local jurisdictions interested in funding traffic safety improvements. Watch the webinar below to learn more.

Discover ways to implement traffic safety improvements

While this webinar focuses on DuPage County and promotes improvements consistent with the DuPage County Safety Action Plan, it also provides general funding guidance that is relevant to jurisdictions in other northeastern Illinois counties with safety action plans. Viewers will learn about U.S. Department of Transportation discretionary grant programs, state- and regionally-administered federal funding, and other funding sources that can support safety improvements. The webinar also addresses key questions such as What projects are eligible? and What makes a good project?

Additionally, CMAP hosted live office hours on December 19, 2025, to address follow-up questions from the webinar and discuss implementation considerations. Staff from CMAP and the DuPage County Division of Transportation, along with TYLin consultants, responded to questions submitted in advance and during the session. A recording of the office hours is available.
